Built Upon the Pillars

“Wisdom has hewn out her pillars…” Proverbs 9:1

The reference to pillars indicates, as most would imagine, stability. Through many painful and sometimes…not so painful circumstances…God has developed in me over a long period of time…certain truths that have helped set standards for my life, determined the way that I view life, and created the processes through which I engage life.

These standards have now become pillars of stability around which everything else is being built.  Certainly...not everyone has the same focus...not everyone has the same calling and emphasis of life...and that's ok.  However, it is very important, that we all have strong standards by which we live, and that we continue to develop those pillars in our lives, not  for ourselves only, but also for many generations to come.

I don’t only want my children to gain wealth… I want them to know how to be a good steward over it.  I don’t only want to leave my children with a happy life… I want them to know what truly constitutes happiness and how to perpetuate that happiness throughout their lives.  I don’t only want my children to have a faith in God…but a very clear understanding of who he is....and what his specific purpose is for them.  I want them to know that life is much more than vain riches, fame, and the seduction of which this world is so full.  I want them to know that there are some things that are absolutes…things upon which they can depend…upon which they can build their lives without fear and doubt.  This is the legacy I want to leave my posterity.

So having said all this...from what source...or sources...would someone find this wisdom...these standards and pillars of life.  Let me say this....I love reading books that further stabilize my ideas, such as books of history and famous quotes from wise men...both past and present.  These books are filled with interesting quotes and phrases of wisdom.  This information creates stability in my life, and my understanding of how it should be lived.  However, the most important information that I feed myself with daily is the bible…God’s Word!  It is unlike any other book...it is a living book!  It's truth is the stone from which I am hewing out the pillars of my life…pillars which I can always depend upon to correctly guide my character, life expressions, speech, and calling.

The truths of the bible will not unfold to those who approach it only intellectually with the mind.  It is a spiritual book…and therefore it can only be revealed through a spiritual realm.  God Almighty is the keeper of that realm…and he reveals its secrets only to the humble...those who diligently seek after it…those who are hungry for it...and more importantly...those who are hungry to know Him on a personal level!
