Proverbs 25:13
A faithful messenger to them that send him is as the cold of snow in the time of harvest.
He refreshes their souls in a time of hardship. .
Snow, in time of harvest is actually quite unheard of; and even if it does happen, it is a rare thing these days. Mainly, because harvest takes place in the early to mid summer months, both here and in most parts of the world. However, if it did come, it certainly would be a refreshing change from the heat that often bears down on us during that time of year.
It seems that we are always looking forward to each season as they arrive. But after a while, we become just as anxious to see them go. Nevertheless, no time of the year is quite as nostalgic and precious, as when we enter into the cool of the Christmas season. Then, the time comes when we once again look forward to the refreshing warmth of the early spring sunshine that drives out the bone-chilling cold, and as new leaves bud upon the trees, they replace the drab leafless ones with new life.
So notice how the faithful are compared to such rare seasonal visitations. Solomon wrote in previous chapters saying, “A faithful man, who can find?” I guess it is not only a refreshing thing to have someone that you can count on, but the sheer pleasure of finding such a rare item is a great blessing in itself. I remember many moments, when as a missionary in Mexico, that I would be hiking through the jungle in the intensely humid tropical summer heat, and just as I felt that I could not take another step, all of a sudden a cool breeze would begin to blow out of nowhere! It was like God sending me a gift signifying his pleasure upon the work that I was presently engaged in, and encouraging me to press on.
It is the exact same feeling, when during the heat of the day, a faithful friend suddenly shows up to help us finish the work at just the right time. These supports are rarely early, but always faithfully on time!
