There are societies throughout the entire world, ones which do not have strong fixed moral systems, or codes, by which they live. Their foundation is built upon constant shifting sands, which easily move whenever, and wherever it might best benefit their means. They employ various doctrines of relativism... doctrines which facilitate vast corruption within the walls of their ranks.
This dangerous mindset causes people to engage in lawless and corrupt activity; not for the maintenance of the freedom and prosperity of society…but rather for the maintenance of their own power, with which they use to enslave and oppress the very society to which they were appointed to serve. These dangerous ideologies are the cause of countless rebellions, the decay of morality, and the betrayal of the tenets of prosperity throughout nations all over the world. A society can survive massive upheavals in its financial markets, broad pandemics of disease, and the destructive forces of pestilence and drought. But no nation will ever survive an absence of the elements of individual freedom, the subversion of justice, the betrayal of free enterprise, and the abandonment of moral discipline.
These elements of which I speak, must become steadfast foundations of the innate character of any free nation...components which must be made almost impossible to remove and erase. But rather…are permanently etched into solid stone memorials…memorials which stand as a constant reminder of these eternal principles and standards…standards which all of our forefathers expect us to vehemently defend…and standards up to which we are expected to live!
Proverbs 11:10
“When it goes well with the just… the city rejoices;
I believe that there is one reason, and one reason alone, as to why things “go well” with any nation or enterprise of people. I believe that is has to do with the spiritual atmosphere in which they live and breathe. I have said this before, so I’ll say it again. People do not stop and think to breathe. They just do it naturally. However, if a person is drowning thirty feet under the water, and there is no breathable oxygen anywhere in sight...the game suddenly changes...and there is no other commodity more important at that particular moment...than that of oxygen! Just like the air we breathe...we often take for granted...the just and peaceful atmosphere of the freedom in which we live... work...worship...and prosper. We think that it will always be there...and it very possibly could remain. But only if we in this generation can continue to understand the importance of protecting its virtue...the sacrifice it takes to sustain its health....and the courage it takes to promote its voice!
Certainly, there have been several ugly moments throughout the history of this nation...moments where certain injustices prevailed at the time. Those who lived before and shortly after the civil rights movement remember well the injustice and abuse that many suffered. Nevertheless, because our society, through the power of our constitution , adheres to certain fixed moral laws... and extends freedoms to its citizens....there has never failed to be a voice of reason to stand up and take issue with these evils… through efforts sometimes peaceful… and sometimes not so peaceful! Nevertheless, through enormous efforts and relentless wisdom we engaged the struggle until freedom was finally won, and justice retained her voice.
Even with all the freedoms which we have obtained in this country, we still have pockets of hypocrisy, corruption, and unjust activity throughout the corporate, political, and religious realms of our society. We all know there are no perfect people. Hitherto, there exists no perfect nation. Just because certain people who have championed justice and moral ethics... are later discovered to have failed at some point to be their best....or live up to the ideals they represented...does not invalidate societies need for morals...a code of ethics...nor the necessity for a leadership that will reflect the same.
Although we can never hope to have a perfect nation....it is imperative that as every generation goes by...we as individuals must intently engage the struggle to become a better one!
