Gems of Wisdom

Throughout the book of Proverbs there is so much emphasis put on our ability to receive…and primarily on our ability to receive wisdom.

I think that the reason such a book has been written… is that its value has always been one of the greatest needs among society.  God has made finding the elements of wisdom like finding precious gems in the earth.  Much like precious stones, the values of wisdom are only found through two different venues.  They can be discovered through a diligent and lengthy search.   Or, they can be found through someone else sharing their beauty with anyone hungry enough to see and understand their value.

Proverbs 8:1-5

“Doesn’t Wisdom call out?  … At the heights overlooking the road and at the crossroads, she takes her stand….Beside the gates at the entry to the city…and at the main entrance, she cries out: “People, I call out to you; my cry is to mankind.  Learn to be wise … use your common sense of understanding.”

Here we have one of truest aspects of wisdom in the heart of the wise.  This verse of scripture indicates that you will find wisdom in the gatherings of large numbers of people.  Where people are going and coming, wisdom is putting forth its voice.  In other words,  someone has been given a huge platform to speak and share the wisdom that he or she has in their heart.

However, there is a dynamic that transpires when the wise do not share their discoveries, and do not give from what he or she has been given.  The scripture indicates the result by saying, “Even that which he has will be taken away...”  This is a warning that should compel us to give, to share, and to witness of the grace and truth which we have so mercifully been given.

However, we should not respond because of a warning from God…but rather because of our love for him.  All a witness does is share the truth concerning the events that have transpired, exactly as they experienced them.  We are not sharing a bad experience, but rather, a glorious one, a profound one; an experience that is principal above all others.

Therefore, a wise man will discern the importance of using what he has been given.  He will get out among the people, in the midst of the multitudes, on the web, in business offices, hospital-rooms, at dining-room tables, with family, with strangers, with friends, and with whomever he may, sharing the truth that opens the doors to life, joy, peace and justice.

It will do no good to speak to the empty forest and open fields which are for the most part void of life!  It is not institutions, organizations, systems, or buildings that God is interested in changing.  Those are not the things that God redeemed with his own blood.  It is the souls of men, women, and children about whom God is concerned.  It is the good of mankind that God desires to secure.

Therefore, no matter where you are in your journey…give of what you have…share of what you know…speak of what you have seen…no matter how great or how small you may think the gift you possess…it is a precious gem of wisdom…and a mighty power with which you can move the world!
