Too Many Voices

Never before in the history of this planet have there been so many voices speaking at once from such a diversity of perspectives and sources.  There is seemingly an insatiable public desire for an enormous variety of information…information and knowledge that continues to feed the media frenzy and the exponential growth of communication technology.

However, standing right in the middle of this mass of information and this tsunami growth of technology… there is a staunch irony weighing heavy upon society!  The irony is…that while we live with such an overload of information…why is there such a dire drought for answers…and a pandemic of ignorance within our society!  The world is full of opportunistic promises.  There are the get-rich-quick books, lose a 100 lbs in a day promises…and oh yeah…how to better please your man or your woman.  All of which give some sort of guarantee that through this understanding and experience…life will somehow get better.  However, most of the time the only thing that these promises leave us with…is emptiness…more questions…and a thinner pocket book!

The most sterile and effective information…is information that comes directly from an original source.  However, sadly enough, not many original sources are willing to reveal their secrets.  Nevertheless, there is an original source for real wisdom.  Proverbs constantly refers to wisdom in a feminine sense… as “her”.  I believe that it is referring to the pure virgin the bible calls “God's People”.  Pure…not because of anything she has done to make herself that way…but because Jesus Christ has made her that way through his sacrifice.  Life-changing truth cannot be found within the counsel of those claiming some kind of religious perfection…supreme holiness…or unique revelation…rather within the fellowship of the humble, the forgiven, and those whose lives have been set upon a new course by God.

Proverbs 9:3
“Wisdom … cries upon the high places...”

Wisdom was not formed so that it might simply be archived in some library to collect dust…but rather that it might be given a voice…and that it might be spoken from a place where it can be heard!  This particular verse says that wisdom will be given a place from which everyone can hear her voice, “…the high places”.  She may not start at the top, but if her voice speaks truth…it won’t take long before she gets there.  Here are just a few historical examples of this truth.

Joseph, the son of Jacob, started as a small boy with a seed of wisdom in his father’s house…but before long his voice was being heard across the known world through the authority of the King of Egypt…Pharaoh himself.  The apostle Paul started in the desert of Arabia…but soon he was in the palace of Cesar, the great Roman Emperor.  Consider the power of the voice of wisdom through the life of Billy Graham.  A son of a small North Carolina dairy farmer…one who became the counselor of many U.S. presidents and kings and dignitaries from around the world…not to mention the millions of ordinary lives that he touched through his evangelistic ministry.

Finally, let me conclude with this one thought.  Yes, wisdom has been commissioned, and her beautiful voice can now be heard throughout all the corners of the world, from the darkest jungles of Jakarta, to palaces of Kings and Queens, from the inner city streets of Harlem to the small country towns of the Mississippi delta, there is not a place that her voice cannot be heard…nor the effects of her works not seen!
