A Forecast of Sunshine

“The path of the unjust is filled with darkness: they walk…knowing not where they are going.”

As I described previously, the path of those who work injustice worsens over time.  It becomes like an old garment that is torn, stained, and faded with the wear of time.  The direction of this path is like a lamp running out of oil, continually dimming, and growing darker and darker with each passing day.

This is a description of a life lived without God; a life lived without forgiveness, or redemption.  It is a life not knowing how to properly love.  A life without God is a life of ignorance concerning the things that pertain to peace, joy, and justice.  A wise man once told me, “Those who do not know God are like blind dogs in a butcher shop.  They smell something alright, but just how to get a hold of it, they don’t know.  All they can do is just guess.”

This is a terrible way to live, not knowing.  However, I believe that it is even more terrible to die in this state. The Bible says, “These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; so that you might know that you have eternal life.”  God does not intend for anyone to live without knowing, and certainly does not intend that we die without knowing.  We can know!!

“The path of the just is like the light of the sun.
As it rises, it shines more and more until it reaches its pinnacle.”

God has a great promise for any man, woman, or child, who has put his or her trust in God… a promise of a brighter day.  The path refers to the direction that our lives are headed, both ours and our children’s. When I look into my children’s future, I see a bright hope.  I have had a great life, but my children will enjoy an even better one.  I have had great success in my life, but my children will accomplish even more than I.

Too many times all people talk to their children about is the gloom and doom of the world that they see and hear on the T.V.  However, that is not the future that God has planned for us.  The direction that we need to take, is the one that will lead us to a better and fuller life …one that will increase in brightness with every generation that comes and goes.  The Bible puts it in this way saying, “The God of heaven set up a kingdom, which will never be destroyed: and the kingdom will not be left to other people, but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will last forever.”

This is what our children have to look forward to…a kingdom built and established by God…a kingdom that will fill the entire earth with its glory, power, justice, peace and everlasting joy.  Over time, we will see that good, not evil, will only grow in its influence and brightness throughout the earth…a solid rock of hope upon which we can move forward to build our lives with confidence and joy…both now…and throughout all of eternity.
